Transition from Year 6

The Journey to Year 7

As well as feeling excited about the move to secondary school, it is perfectly natural to feel a little nervous. Here at Greyfriars, we do lots of things to make sure that you are happy and confident about joining your new school.

First of all, you will receive a letter in the post welcoming you to Greyfriars.

Following this, you will receive your transition pack together with a more detailed letter about the next steps; the first being our key transition staff visiting you at primary school, where we will get to know you and you can ask us any questions you may have.

Next you will visit us for transition days.  During transition days will get to meet our staff and students from other schools who will be moving up to Greyfriars with you.  There will also be information sessions for parents on these days.

Some of you will be able to visit us on extra days to ensure you feel really confident about joining Greyfrairs.

Greyfriars also runs a summer school.  This is a week of activities designed to help you get to know each other and get an even better understanding of life in the school. There are activities including sports, taster lessons and even a trip.

All this means that, by the time September arrives, you will be feeling more confident and getting excited about joining us. We're very excited to meet you too, and can't wait to see you soon!

For those parents who have any questions relating to their child’s transition from Year 6 into Year 7, we are pleased to let you know that we now have a dedicated email address for this purpose as follows:  transition@gfcs.uk
